Bob Arum Gives Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall Rematch Update
Bob Arum has given the clearest indication yet that we will have a rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall.
The pair clashed in an undisputed ultralight title fight earlier this year.
Taylor is inexplicably number one with WBO for all four titles – the IBF, WBC and WBA Super belts are also at stake – back in february at OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
Many thought that Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs) had convincingly beaten the 31-year-old Scotsman, only when the scorecards 113-112, 111-114 and 112-113 were handed over by three penalty umpires. for ‘ El Gato ‘ was at the wrong end of a divisive decision.
After a questionable win, Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) gave up the WBA Super and WBC titles.
Most recently, it is IBF crown falls by the roadside after the Edinburgh men were ordered to defend the title against Jeremias Ponce.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Taylor has given up her red, white and yellow belt, with Ponce currently facing second place in the rankings, Subriel Matias, for the belt, with rumors swirling around. that they have an October date in mind for the conflict.
And Arum, who promoted Taylor to win the Commonwealth Games gold medal, told Sports sky that a deal for a rematch between his men and Catterall was nearing completion.
He say:
“I think it’s almost there. My legal staff is working on that and the last report I got was that everyone appeared to be on board.
“It has not been signed yet, but I am quite optimistic that the fight will take place. I think that day is the last Saturday of November 26, and I wanted to see if we could do it in Scotland, where the last battle took place.
“[Josh] Taylor told us he was very disappointed with his performance in that game, although he feels he won and I think he won, but it will be a good rematch because of Catterall He’s a pretty good martial artist. “
Taylor retained the Ring Magazine title and had previously flirted, after her first bout against Catterall, with the idea of moving towards a heavier weight class to take on Terence Crawford, the WBO champion, or unify the IBF, WBA Super and WBC King Errol Spence Jr.
However, it now looks like Taylor, from Prestonpans in Edinburgh, will take on the role of the man Chorley. Catterall – who recently signed an endorsement deal with Boxxer to fight on Sky Sports – the second time.
Boxing Social understands that discussions have been made with the AO Arena in Manchester in preparation for the second leg of the tie, before deciding to have the match played in the north again.
