EXPIRED: Buitelaar Promise – Animal Justice Project

Buitelaar Group has Exposed for the first time as part of the Animal Justice Project EXPIRED campaign.

The Buitelaar Group is a major UK calves trader with four large ‘collection centres’ receiving up to 1,500 calves a week. Many calves sold to traders are born on dairy farms with ‘beef breed’ bulls; Whether the females are male or female, they are then sold to be raised in the beef industry. This is another important part of the integrated dairy industry, which the Animal Justice Project first contact in the UK by 2020.

The Buitelaar Group produces pink beef and veal for the major supermarket Morrisons, by fattening male calves for milk. Around 60,000 male dairy calves continue to be shot on UK farms each year; however, almost 65,000 also go to slaughterhouses by 2020. Many calves also participate in the fostering system through traders such as Buitelaar. This large company offers the ‘Buitelaar Promise’, which offers many guarantees to its customers, including “To be treated with the utmost respect” through them “Higher Welfare Value”.

In 2021, the Animal Justice Project Filmed inside Buitelaar .’s Wrexham Collection Center. We’ve caught workers on camera treating calves as if they were simply property – pushing them down a trailer ramp before handling them one by one. Some calves were left without food for hours at the center and appeared distressed, crying. One such calf was left without access to food for more than 21 hours.

As the dairy and beef industries integrate, calf exploitation continues. Sending male dairy calves to beef farms was offered as a ‘solution’ to getting them shot on farms; however, the Animal Justice Project has revealed more people will be slaughtered, and vulnerable, immature children will enter the beef industry. The Buitelaar Group is at the heart of the veal trade for veal and beef, and should never have been awarded the ‘Good Calf Award’ by the World Trade Organization (CIWF). The exploitation and killing of animals is not a welcome thing.

Here’s another example of MILK = BEEF, and the people consuming dairy products are driving the devastating beef industry.
