Bess the dog loves walks, hikes, beach days, and even road trips. However, she does not like swimming. And as long as you don’t force her to swim, Bess is one of the happiest dogs you’ll ever meet. Just look at her sweet smile, and you can definitely see her joy.
But this girl had to go through it to have a good life. And part of her past involves living like a pregnant stray dog on the streets of Tennessee. She was about to give birth to twelve puppies when Tracey and John Stewart found Bess. They were prepared to help, but complications arose and sent them to the emergency room.
Cute Little Dozen comes after trouble
One of the puppies gets stuck in the birth canal, getting in the way of her and her siblings, with Tracey explain“She was in the channel for more than two, three hours, with limited oxygen.”
Soon, however, their first child, Burrdie, was born. However, Burrdie is not the only concern of veterinary staff. With so many puppies, doctors worry some of them might not survive.
“It’s not an option,” Tracey said.
Tracey and John took everyone home, and although they knew it would be round-the-clock care, “We were 100% ready.”
And that maximum effort yields a one hundred percent success rate. All twelve puppies thrived under their care, and soon it’s time for everyone to find their permanent home!
A home for everyone
Bess was the first of the group to realize she was forever healthy, as the Zaleski family felt a connection to the sweet mother dog from the first time they heard about her.
“We fell in love with him right away and knew right away that this was our dog,” says mother Susan Zaleski. “Bess’ personality is… she’s definitely a Nanny dog. She always checks on the kids. I see her maternal instincts.”
Bess’ twelve little lovers are no less in their quest for a home. And in a very lucky twist, Bess and her puppies all found their home with friends and family so they could stay together. And that makes it easy for puppies and their humans to plan the ultimate surprise for their mother.
Ten months after Bess and her puppies went their separate ways, the mother dog and her pups are reunited once again in celebration of their one-year-old birthday. The puppies are grown and healthy, and seeing them all together makes Bess’s heart so happy that she can’t help but rush over to greet them!
“You can only see joy.”
“It was a very successful reunion. I hope that we get this every year, and this will continue for years, years and years to come.”
