Electric Driving Test Developed with Yamaha TY-E 2.0
4 years ago, we first saw Yamaha’s electric test motorcycle, and the Yamaha TY-E is certainly an exciting entry into the space. That statement only became truer with version 2.0.
As such, the Yamaha TY-E 2.0 has just made its official debut at the 49th Tokyo Motorcycle Show, and our initial wave of information reveals a refined bike in Yamaha’s lineup.
The stunning composite monolithic frame (CFRP) has been updated and the battery pack benefits from half a decade of progress – boasting 2.5x more power capacity than the previous “1.0” model That’s only a 20% increase in weight.
Yamaha quotes the official weight as “more than 70kg” for the TY-E 2.0, which is in line with its internal combustion counterparts.
Yamaha has also modified the powertrain and battery layout, lowering the center of gravity on the test bike. Additional changes were made to the bike’s mechanical flywheel and clutch, to improve traction.
Still a prototype, the Yamaha TY-E 2.0 is sadly not on sale… but Kenichi Kuroyama will compete with the electric motorcycle in the 2022 FIM Test World Championship.
The Yamaha TY-E 2.0 tuning package looks aesthetically pleasing and ready to compete. Hopefully we’ll see them in dealerships soon, as some backyard activity is seriously silent.
