GMC Sierra EV Denali teased ahead of October 20 launch

The next electric GMC pickup truck has been revealed.

On Friday, GMC showcased a Denali version of the upcoming Sierra EV with a video and confirmed its launch date as October 20.

The production truck seems almost identical to the teased rendering in 2021 with large C-shaped LED daytime running lights and built-in LED charging indicator. You can see the design of the split headlight mounted in the middle bumper. Unlike most electric pickups, the Sierra EV Denali avoids the use of a full-width LED light bar and instead features the GMC logo and LED grille surround — despite the lack of a traditional grille, for reasons due to aerodynamics.

LED taillights (somewhat resembling magnetic lightning elements 2022 GMC Hummer EV), a large panoramic roof and cooling quilted leather front seats are also revealed in the video.

GM says it intends to build 1 million EVs in North America annually by 2025, including about 600,000 electric pickups. The automaker spent $4 billion converting the Orion assembly plant in Orion Township, Michigan to build 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.

These pickups, along with the GMC Hummer EV, are based on GM .’s Ultium EV Platform. The scalable platform is now said to be capable of going up to 400 miles in a Silverado EV with a 200 kWh battery pack. The 800-volt electrical architecture allows for a quick 100-mile charge in just 10 minutes with a 350-kw charger.

The Silverado EV features rear-wheel steering to help reduce the turning radius of large trucks, and it is expected that the GMC Sierra EV Denali will also have this system.
