Ducati wins 16 pole positions in 2022 with 7 different riders…

Ducati’s best MotoGP season ever in terms of numbers

Francesco Bagnaia and Ducati have written an important page in MotoGP history by winning the 2022 World Riders Title. Along with the Constructor and Team Titles won by Team Ducati Lenovo, the manufacturer is based Borgo Panigale-based team won their third crown this season, which is the best title in the top division.

With seven wins, ten podiums and five pole positions, Bagnaia claimed her first World title in the Premier Class in the final Grand Prix of the 2022 season to be held in Valencia. Along with the World Championship won by Casey Stoner in 2007, this is the second MotoGP Rider’s Title for the Borgo Panigale-based manufacturer.

Bagnaia became the first Italian rider to win on an Italian bike, the Desmosedici GP, the MotoGP World Rider Title. The last person to do so in the top tier was Giacomo Agostini exactly 50 years ago, in 1972, when he won the 500cc world championship on an MV Agusta. On the other hand, Valentino Rossi was the last Italian racer to win the riders’ world championship in MotoGP in 2009, 12 years ago.

The championship title came thanks to a historic comeback: Bagnaia’s maximum distance from the leader was 91 points after the 10th race at the Sachsenring (Germany), after which he had overcome 8 Grands Prix. Bagnaia thus beat the previous record of Rainey, who recovered by a disadvantage of 65 points in 1992.

Bagnaia is also the first Ducati rider to score four consecutive wins at Assen, Silverstone, Spielberg and Misano.

In 2022, Bagnaia completed 189 laps leading a race and set the fastest lap on three occasions: at the Spanish, French and Italian GPs.

With a total of 11 wins at the Desmosedici GP, Bagnaia ranks third among the riders with the most wins in the first division with Ducati (First with 23 wins, Dovizioso second with 14).

The 2022 season is the best season for Ducati at MotoGP: in fact, manufacturer Borgo Panigale has scored a total of 32 podiums with 7 different riders (10 Bagnaia, 7 Miller, 6 Bastianini, 4 Zarco) , 4 Martin, 1 Bezzecchi), including 12 wins (7 Bagnaia, 4 Bastianini, 1 Miller).

In the last 26 races, Ducati always finished on the podium.

Ducati has won 16 pole positions this season with seven different riders, a record for manufacturer Borgo Panigale. Before that, only Suzuki had won pole with 5 different riders in a single season. This year, Ducati also equaled the record for pole positions in a single season previously held by Honda.

In the last 40 races held, Ducati has consistently placed at least one Desmosedici GP on the front row of the grid.

This year, Ducati made six front row locks by placing all GP Desmosedici in the first three positions of the starting grid.

In Austin (American GP) and Mugello (Italian GP), the top 5 positions on the rankings are all occupied by Ducati machines.

For the third year in a row and the fourth in its MotoGP history, Ducati won the top tier constructors World Championship, scoring 448 points with 192 points ahead of the runner-up.

For the second year in a row and the third in history in MotoGP, Team Ducati Lenovo won the Team World Title in MotoGP with a total score of 454 at the end of the season.

For the second year in a row, factory-supported Ducati’s Pramac Racing team has been awarded the best independent racing team of 2022 in MotoGP.

Marco Bezzecchi, rider of Team VR46, was awarded as the best rookie rider of 2022 in MotoGP.

Enea Bastianini was awarded as the best driver of the independent team, Team Gresini. With six championships and four wins under the belt, the original driver Rimini finished the MotoGP World Championship in third place overall.
