Epic light vehicle are introducing their new virtual studio setup. Sometimes referred to as a “mixed reality” studio, this is an enhanced look as well as a time saver. Thankfully, this version doesn’t have too many commits.
Building a studio is always fraught with tough commitments. Do you stay simple and simple, in the name of flexibility? Or do you add custom rigging and dressing settings? I think this virtual studio is a great balance. What’s particularly interesting is that they’ve set it up for corporate interviews, something that always needs to look like it does in the real world.
I also like how they use DaVinci Resolve. These TVs do not have the most accurate colors and may not have been calibrated. So Resolve can help with color correction to make sure everything looks just right in camera.
If you need to upgrade, virtual studio services are better than ever. There are studios kited out in LA, New York, miami, and more. These workflows are also getting easier for special filming. The production is guided on technical aspects as needed, giving you more time to spend with the client or director. For the most part, they are using Unreal Engine 5 for real-time rendering.
