Coordinator interested in potential unification against Stevenson

Joe Cordina would love the chance to take on Shakur Stevenson in a world title unification if he pass Kenchi Ogawa on Saturday.

The Japanese featherweight superweight will be in Wales this week to defend his first IBF belt, which he impressively won against Azinga Fuzile in November. And while Cordina is focused on the task ahead and won victory over his Cardiff fans, the possibility of facing Stevenson is unlikely
ignore. Cordina said to Andi Purewal of Boxing Social

“You always picture yourself fighting certain fighters and he won the WBC and the WBO. If I win, I want to be unified but I have to win on Saturday.”

Stevenson, who beat Oscar Valdez last month to become the unified champion, recently described the undefeated Cordina as a ‘real challenge and real challenge’ in an interview with talkSPORT. The 24-year-old spoke brilliantly about his 30s, which is a boost for the Welshman.

“I was a fan of his and he was a great fighter but I turned my back on anyone. I would love to share the ring with him and agree. ”

And Cordina agreed that Stevenson’s words served as additional motivation for his first world title challenge.

“It just gives me a little extra motivation to win this fight.”

“There was a bit of a stir when I heard him. I always like his stuff on social media [media] because like i said i’m a fan of his too. I am a boxing fan first and foremost. There’s a chance this bout could be a big step for me to show off on the big stage because guys like Shakur and Roger Gutierrez who already have other belts will want to go up against me because I’ll have IBF. It’s nice to hear Shakur and he thinks I’m the best boxer in the UK at 130. When I win we can talk but until then I have a job to do. ”
