Barber Road, Bell’s the One Work at Churchill
WSS Racing’s Haircut line and 1st place winner of the Lothenbach Stables Bell is a light up the jobs tab at Churchill Downs May 28, as Barber Road prepares to start June 11 Belmont Stocks presented by NYRA Bets (G1) at Belmont Park.
Working five hooks in 1:01 1/5, Race Day’s John Ortiz-trained son made his second timed move since he finished sixth in the 7th Kentucky Derby May presented by Woodford Reserve (G1).
Ortiz reported that the foal came out of action in “great shape” and added: “Has been informed of health and wellness from veterinarian, training assistant and self We’ve never seen him look this sharp before… like he’s finally reached the maturity we’ve been waiting for. He looks so athletic.”
Meanwhile, Bell’s the One hit a quick half-mile at: 47 1/5 below Corey Lanerie, second fastest out of 135 in the day’s distance. 6-year-old intern Neil Pessin was back on the tab for the first time since his fourth in the May 7 Derby City Distaff presented by Kendall-Jackson Winery (G1). She’s headed to the start in Chicago Stakes (G3) June 25 in Churchill.
Bell’s the One has won it five times at Churchill, including the 2020 Derby City Distaff.
Pessin said: “I think she was a bit underwhelming (the last time). “This will give her a little more time between starts and still be able to run on the track we know she loves.”
