03.06.222 – Cologne (ots) | Winners of the CIVIS Europe Media Awards for Cultural Integration and Diversity 2022 have been announced: €15,000 political prize, CIVIS TOP AWARD, to documentary Schwarze Adler (Black Eagles) (Amazon Prime Video | BROADVIEW | ZDF), by author and director Torsten Körner. The film tells the story of prejudice and society’s hostility towards black people. It is also the winner of the CIVIS VIDEO AWARDS in the information category. The jury of the CIVIS Media Awards praised Torsten Körner’s documentary as “emotionally, journalistically and artistically moving – the plight of the eagles in this German team shirt is etched on your skin.”
The VIDEO AWARD in the entertainment category goes to Paul Mommertz und Magnus Vattrodt, author of The Wannsee Conference (ZDF | Constantin Television).
Fitore Muzaqi, Henrik Schütz and Stefanie Vollmann come out on top in the AWARDS/Social Media Format category with My Scar: Martin is a prisoner in a torture prison in Syria (WDR COSMO | bildband Film & Fernsehproduktion).
The CIVIS SOUND AWARD in the long program category went to Sebastian Friedrich for The Last Day. Assassination in Hanau (Deutschlandradio | Deutschlandfunk Kultur | WDR | NDR).
Alexander Moritz won the competition in the short program category with Morning Information: Saxony Government Coalition Against Deportation of Well-Incorporated Georgian Families (Deutschlandradio | Deutschlandfunk).
The CIVIS AUDIO AWARD podcast was decided by public vote and belongs to authors Fabian Grieger and Jonas Seufert, for Two-Thirds FM – Season 1 Is there friendship in prison? Episode 4.
Anna-Sophia Richard wins the YOUNG C. Award for LOS CUATRO VIENTOS (THE FOUR WINDS) (Giganten Film Produktions GmbH | SWR | Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg).
The winners of the CIVIS CINEMA AWARDS, also chosen by public voting, are director Sönke Wortmann and producers Christoph Müller and Tom Spieß for Contra (Constantin Film Produktion | SevenPictures Film).
Europe’s most prestigious media awards for cultural inclusion and diversity will be presented in a televised broadcast. The show will be on ARD Mediathek from Sunday, June 5, and ARD/Das Erste will air the awards ceremony at 11:35 p.m. Monday, June 6.
Anna Dushime will host the awards ceremony. Supporters include former German President Joachim Gauck, actors Melika Foroutan, Bjarne Mädel, Mariele Millowitsch and Tyron Ricketts, choreographer and author Nikeata Thompson, presenter Esther Sedlaczek, author and activist Gianni Jovanovic. Their speeches will be broadcast live during the ceremony.
The same applies to contributions from the partners of the CIVIS Media Foundation, whose activities include hosting the CIVIS Media Awards: Tom Buhrow, Chairman of the CIVIS Board of Directors and General Manager of WDR, Andreas Freudenberg, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Freudenberg Foundation, Reem Alabali-Radovan, Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration and Federal Government Commissioner to Combat Racism, Director General Peter Limbourg (Deutsche Welle) and Stefan Raue (Deutschlandradio), General Managers Roland Weißmann (ORF) and Gilles Marchand (SRG SSR), Minu Barati-Fischer (Produzentenallianz) and Christiane von Websky (Stiftung Mercator).
Nearly 800 programs from 20 EU countries and Switzerland competed for the CIVIS Media Prize. CIVIS is Europe’s most important media award for cultural integration and diversity. It has been awarded in various categories since 1988. The CIVIS Media Prize is under the auspices of the European Parliament.
