Chevrolet reveals its first Corvette GT3 Racer, the Z06 GT3.R
Convergence of GT . Regulations coming to GT3 in all major motorsport championships in 2024 means we’ll see brand new racing car from several manufacturers. During construction 2023 Rolex 24 at DaytonaChevrolet has introduced the new Corvette Z06 GT3.R. The first factory-backed Chevrolet GT3 race car will make its competitive debut in a year at the Rolex 24 2024 in Daytona.
Corvette Z06 GT3.R based on current mid-engine Corvette C8 Z06 and uses a 5.5 liter V8 engine derived from production Z06. The GT3.R is built around an aluminum chassis from Chevrolet’s Bowling Green Assembly. Then, Pratt Miller welded a steel coil cage to the chassis. The Z06 GT3.R also uses 18-inch wheels, like its racing predecessor, the C8.R.
Tadge Juechter, Corvette’s chief executive engineer, said:
“Corvette Racing has had an important influence on the design of Corvette production cars for 25 years. The racing and corvette production teams worked closely together during development to maximize the benefits of the mid-engine design, sharing lessons learned that helped set both programs to achieve all-around performance on the track.”
In its 25th season, Corvette Racing is contesting the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with a Corvette C8.R modified to meet the GT3-based GT Daytona regulations. Chevrolet and Corvette Racing expect to field four Z06 GT3.Rs in the 2024 IMSA season. IMSA grandfather in the Corvette C8.R for two seasons to give Chevrolet time to develop into the GT3. Internationally, two GT3.Rs will compete in the FIA 2024 World Endurance Championship, which includes 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Corvette Racing started testing the Z06 GT3.Rs last September and I expect this iconic outfit to miss a step in the transition to running a real GT3 race car. consume.
