Volvo EX30 Cross Country confirmed for Australia

Completely electric Volvo EX30 is finally starting to hit Australian showrooms and the brand’s local boss says it will expand the range with an adventure-ready Cross Country version in the near future.

Talk to Car expert at the Australian launch of the EX30, Volvo Car Australia managing director Stephen Connor said EX30 Cross-country running is definitely coming, but ‘when’ is yet to be determined.

“We are planning to bring it [but] We have not yet decided when we will bring the EX30 Cross Country,” Mr. Connor said.

“[Cross Country] is part staple, part our makeover, and the car looks great. That will evolve the segment again from a family car to a fun, adventurous vehicle that you can take off-road.”

Mr. Connor couldn’t comment in more detail on which engine will power the EX30 Cross Country when it arrives here, but a reasonable assumption is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system.

“We’re still working through that with the product team, but depending on what happens, we may choose [which drivetrains to offer] from a local perspective,” Mr. Connor continued.

“So yeah, it’s definitely coming – I just can’t tell you ‘when’.”

The Volvo EX30 Cross Country was revealed as part of the electric crossover’s launch last June.

Shown in images as an early production concept, the EX30 Cross Country is dubbed a “special edition” that will launch in Europe in 2024.

Key highlights include increased ground clearance (measurement TBC), 19-inch black alloy wheels with the option of smaller 18-inch alloy wheels “with bespoke tires” – possibly rubber more sure.

Distinctive features include front, rear and side skid plates; special black trim panels for the front bumper and rear doors; as well as a Cross Country badge with a small Swedish flag mounted on the bonnet as the “cherry on top”.

Three variants of the EX30 are offered globally.

For the entry-level Single Motor powertrain, which offers a 200kW rear electric motor, a choice of Standard Range and Extended Range batteries – 51kW LFP base unit and 69kWh NMC battery for range longer movement. Extended range only offered in Australia.

At the top of the range is the Twin Motor Performance, fitted with a 69kWh extended range NMC battery as standard and delivering 315kW of system power from the dual electric motors and a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time. in just 3.6 seconds – this is the fastest Volvo acceleration ever.

Given the Cross Country’s more adventurous leanings, the Twin Motor Performance powertrain with AWD seems a logical fit. However, it remains unclear whether Volvo plans to launch a less powerful dual-motor version to coincide with the Cross Country’s global launch.

The Volvo EX30 model year 2025 on sale now starting at $59,990 plus on-road costs for the base Single Motor Extended Plus variant.

While the entry-level grade doesn’t see a price increase for MY25, the higher-spec Ultra versions – available in Single and Twin Engine Performance derivatives – have both been given the low-end treatment. price increase of 1300 USD despite no adjustment in specifications. Volvo Car Australia said rising freight costs were the cause.
