Remember at the beginning of this year, there was a new report every other day a mysterious object in the sky that may or may not be a Chinese spy device? It feels like a whole lot longer than it was just a few months ago. However, if you missed those dates, we have some great news for you. There’s a new mystery ball!

NBC News report that the US military is currently tracking a hot air balloon that flies over parts of Hawaii and is slowly moving towards Mexico. The military has actually been monitoring it since last week and now believes the balloon “poses no threat to air traffic or national security and does not transmit a signal.”
It’s also not clear if it was a weather balloon. Military officials don’t believe it belongs to the Chinese, but they have yet to find out who the owner is or where it came from. In a statement, the Pentagon said “there is no indication that it is being operated or controlled by a foreign actor or adversary. The balloon does not travel directly over critical defense infrastructure or other sensitive locations of the United States Government, nor does it pose a military or physical threat to people on the ground. “
In addition, a spokesman for Indo-Pacific Command said NBCThe US Indo-Pacific Command responded to an unidentified radar signature on Friday in the vicinity of the island of Hawaii. Pacific Air Forces launched three F-22s to assess the situation and visually identify a spherical object. We monitored the object’s movement and assessed that it posed no threat.”
That said, if it does end up in US territory, there’s still a chance the military will shoot it down. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
