Chery cooperates with Inokom, turning Malaysia into ASEAN’s manufacturing hub – R&D center RHD, exporting to Australia
At the Malaysian media day Autoshow 2023 today, Chery officially partnered with Inokom to assemble the CKD domestically at Inokom’s 200-acre facility in Kulim. The first two Chery models that will be released from the Kedah factory are omoda 5 And Tiggo 8 Pro SUVs.

Chen also announced that Malaysia will be the Chinese automaker’s production hub in ASEAN, despite the fact that the country also has Local assembly in Indonesia. Products from Kulim will be exported to countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam and as far as Australia. All of the above countries are right-hand drive markets, except for Vietnam.
Chery’s head of Malaysia also revealed plans to set up an R&D center for the company’s right-hand drive products, which will include testing, training and parts distribution in the region. Initial models assembled in Malaysia will run on ICE engines, but domestic plug-in hybrid production and the full EV is on the card.
