Becoming the undisputed world champion was destined for Caleb Plant’s mind.

The former IBF super-middleweight champion is steadfast in his beliefs, despite being considered by many to be the best boxer in the sport at Canelo Alvarez. While Plant gave the Mexican star all he could handle, the confetti fell on Alvarez’s head as he won their November 6 match.

With Plant currently without a belt, he will begin his long road back to the super-middle ladder by going up against famous former athlete Anthony Dirrell. As first reported by BoxingScene.com, both Plant and Dirrell have agreed to face each other next, at an unspecified location and date.

In the case of Flint, Michigan’s Dirrell, the match against Plant would be seen as a noble consolation prize. The two-time super middleweight belt holder had initially expressed his desire to face Alvarez after his incredible fourth-round knockout win over competitor Marcos Hernandez in late 2021.

However, with Alvarez deciding to take on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, Dirrell has now set his sights on Plant. During the past 12 months, Dirrell has publicly expressed his disdain for the former IBF player.

Aside from Dirrell getting a chance to settle his differences with Plant in the ring, the winner of their upcoming contest will have a bigger momentum waiting. As stated by BoxingScene.com, the winner of Plant vs. Dirrell will face the winner of the upcoming confrontation between David Lemieux and David Benavidez. The two are scheduled to go head to head on May 21, in Phoenix, Arizona for the now vacant £168 interim WBC crown.
