Michael Conlan zoned out, ready for Leigh Wood on Saturday

Michael Conlan seemed to be in as good a place as he was when he spoke to Boxing Social yesterday.

The 30-year-old was at the public gym days after challenging Leigh Wood for the WBA featherweight title on the champion’s home court at Nottingham Arena on Saturday night.

“I worked in the dark,” Conlan told Andi Purewal. The Belfast fighter responded when asked about his predictions for the upcoming Kiko Martinez-Josh Warrington world featherweight bout on March 26.

Conlan was definitely zoned out during the interview and is clearly now ready for the fight.

“I did my best,” he said of preparing for the biggest challenge of his career to date.

“In a sense, it was easy because I didn’t have to wake up for anything. Motivation is natural there. Every class feels tired, the feeling of being tired has never felt like that. I’ve felt it in previous camps, but this one was perfect, going great.

“My preparation was incredible, and the confidence that came from my preparation. I said that from the very beginning. I prepared very well before the press conference. After them, it rose to an even higher level. I’m looking forward to performing on Saturday that I know I can. ”

Conlan isn’t bothered about whether people consider Saturday’s fight to be 50-50. Opinions are against him, but he is sure to win against Belfast’s favor.

“Saturday night we took over. Saturday night we put on a show and on Saturday night you hear ‘And the new thing’.
