Brittney Griner’s Wife Says Scheduled Call Never Happened

According to AP News, Cherelle Griner had a scheduled call with her wife, the WNBA player Brittney Grinerto celebrate their four years but it didn’t happen.

Brittney is said to have been given a phone number to call the US Embassy in Russia, and she will be connected to her wife through someone at her desk. Unfortunately, that did not happen as the Embassy was “unstaffed” on Saturday. As a result, her calls went unanswered.

Cherelle told the AP that Brittney’s attorney provided her with the information Monday, and she was “hurt” that she didn’t get a chance to speak to her wife, even though it was scheduled in two weeks. Cherelle also said Brittney tried to contact her nearly a dozen times.

Cherelle says:

I was distraught. I feel pain. I’m done, fed up. I’m pretty sure I texted the BG rep and was like, ‘I don’t want to talk to anyone. I’m going to take a minute to get my feelings out and just tell everyone I’m not free right now. ‘ Because it just knocked me down. I’m not well, I’m still unwell.

She also said that she was told no one was there to handle the call because “a number of Brittney Griners were brought to dial a number that normally handles calls from inmates on days from Monday to Friday.” Two to Friday but not the weekend, that’s why no one is there to transfer calls.”

Cherelle also shared that she doesn’t trust the government at the moment.

I find that unacceptable and I have no confidence in our government now. If I can’t trust him to take a Saturday after-hours call, how can I trust him to actually negotiate to get home on my wife’s behalf? Because that’s a much bigger request than catching a call on Saturday.

The US State Department stated that it was “deeply sorry that Brittney Griner was unable to speak to his wife due to a logistical error.”

As previously reported, a representative from the Khimki Court of the Moscow region announced that Brittney will have to be detained for an additional 18 days at the “request of the investigation” earlier this month. She is expected to be detained in Russia at least until July 2. News of her extended detention comes after Brittney’s team, the Phoenix Mercury, met with the State Department on Thursday. Two.

As you know, Brittney was first arrested in February after officials allege that they found a vape box with hash oil in her luggage. Originally, Brittney’s detention was scheduled until May, the same month that US officials claimed she was “wrongfully detained”.
