The Ukrainian military said settlements in the eastern Donetsk region and the northeastern Kharkiv region came under heavy Russian fire.
“More than 20 attacks from [Russian] multiple rocket launchers [are] about the positions of our troops and settlements along the line of contact,” the military said.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian forces are guarding the lines along the border between the two countries. Kharkiv and Luhansk area and shelled nearly a dozen settlements during the day.
Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, told Ukrainian television that in the north of Kharkiv, towns recently recaptured by Ukrainian forces near the Russian border were constantly shelled, including in Vovchansk.
“The settlements near the front lines in the Kupiansk region are under constant shelling,” he said, but insisted it was unlikely that Russia would counterattack. “We have enough forces and means in one area and another to repel the enemy.”
Further south, the donetsk The military said the frontline continued to come under intense Russian shelling in nearly 20 areas, especially around Bakhmut and Avdiivka. Battles in the area have turned into wars of attrition involving mortars, tank fire, artillery and explosives dropped from drones – with much of the countryside littered with bomb craters. Neither side captured any meaningful territory for several months along that portion of the front line.
According to the General Staff, in the southern regions of Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk, 22 settlements were attacked, of which two were attacked by Russian planes. In addition, Russian tanks and artillery bombarded nearly 20 settlements in the newly liberated areas of the Kherson region on the western bank of the Dnipro River.
