Breaking the Steel Battle System – PlayStation.Blog

At Spiders, we love to explore different types of RPGs. Since creating us, we’ve tried different types of combat systems and learned something new with every game we’ve released. For our latest game, Steelfting, our goal was to focus on providing a more action-oriented, intentional, detailed and enjoyable combat experience.

A game like a soul

From the Demon’s Souls remake to the Elden Ring, Soulslike titles have captured the attention of players. Of course, this didn’t have to happen when we started Steelfting, but everyone on the team wanted to pay homage to the genre. We wanted to join the fight, making sure players thought about the best course of action and the skills at their disposal, but in a universe of our own. We also wanted to share our passion with as many players as possible, that’s why we decided to create a support mode.

Steelfting is based on the Soulslike formula, but with the unique heart of the Spider-Man game.

The story of Steelfting takes place overnight, at the beginning of the French Revolution, our twisted version. Automatons are running rampant. They completely overpowered the revolutionaries; these humans simply don’t stand a chance in the face of even the most basic of these creations.

Fighting fire with fire, you are the last hope of Paris. An autopilot against an army, your task is not easy, every enemy that stands in your way can be the last if you underestimate them.

To force the player to save the city, but also the constant danger of trying to do so, we decided to focus on a detailed combat system. Timing, studying every move your opponent makes, making sure you don’t attract too much attention so you don’t feel out of place, and finding their weak points will be the keys to your success.

Yes, they are strong, but so are you.

Not only will you have to master your skills, but you will also have to manage your cooling system. The more aggressive you are in combat, the more you will heat up, which can cause the Aegis to overheat and become incapacitated for a short time. This mechanism may remind you of the classic fitness system found in many games of the same genre, but using instant cooling you can quickly lower your temperature to cool down. wing a few more hits or get out safely. But be careful! If used excessively or at the wrong time, this can cause you to become completely frozen mid-game and ready to attack.

In addition to fitness management, other classic action RPG aspects include stats that you’ll need to carefully upgrade, as well as a variety of items and modules to collect for customization. and enhance your gameplay.

One of the distinctive features of Steelfting’s gameplay is its verticality. Aegis can jump, and this ability will open up new possibilities to attack and surprise enemies, use different combos, or even avoid some battles altogether if you want to choose your battles. me. While very useful in combat, it is also another way to explore the city and its narrow streets.

Aegis and her arsenal

The Aegis is not just another automatic. She is an intricate masterpiece and as such, there are many possible fighting styles at her disposal: you can decide to be a brave bodyguard, a fast and deadly dancer, or a alchemy shooting from a distance. Aegis’ fighting style can of course also be changed and adjusted at any time during her journey.

We wanted the combat system in Steelfting to have its own identity and reflect the mechanical nature of Aegis. As such, she’s not just wielding weapons, they’re actually an extension of her body.

With 9 weapon types and over 40 variations, weapons are the core component of Steelfting.

You’ll find weapons you’re probably familiar with like mace or dual swords, but some weapons are more unique to Aegis, such as her fan that can transform into a shield or more wacky ones. like alchemy rifles consume precious Alchemical Capsules that you can find while exploring or purchase when placing your gear at a casket. Heavy weapons like the Wheel may seem too big for your tiny frame at first, but Aegis manages to wield them with no less grace and devastating effect.

Each of these weapons has a special move that offers more playability. And keep in mind that Aegis can also quickly switch between the two weapons at any time and even use her tools in combat, which can make for some brutal combos.

The more you progress, the more powerful these weapons can become if you upgrade them. These enhancements will certainly be useful in your quest, especially against the Titans, the deadliest enemies you will ever face.

To defeat the Titans, you will have to understand how they fight, by learning their patterns and finding the right time to attack. It may take a few tries as they hit hard, meaning each hit can be fatal. But don’t worry, the tools at your disposal and how you master Aegis skills will make all the difference.

We really wanted each boss fight to be epic and give a sense of achievement when you finally beat them.

We can’t wait to discover your first impressions, which Titans do you find the most challenging, which gameplay you prefer, and what are your favorite areas of Paris. We hope that you will have as much fun playing the game as we did. And with Steelfying’s release coming, we won’t have to wait long. Vive la revolution!

Steel Development will be available on PS5 on September 8.
