Ooh, Dead Cells has Hollow Knight stuff now

If you are a fan of roguelikes and metroidvanias (hello), then you might be happy to know Dead cells added a bunch of weapons, skins and skills from loads of good guys. Everyone’s Here update arrived yesterday, bringing new challenges for souls like the Motion Twin that will let you unlock characters from Blasphemous, Hyper Light Drifter, Guacamelee, Skul: The Hero Slayer, Curse Of The Dead Gods, and most importantly (for me), the Hollow Knight. Hooray for Hollow Knight content!

With this update, players will find a book at the start of Dead Cells, giving them a challenge. Complete one and you unlock a new character for role-playing. The game will also feature a series of lore rooms (Hollow Knight has a bench!), which you can visit to find weapons and skills.

Those weapons include the Pure Nail from Hollow Knight (which allows you to do less jumping attacks on enemies below you, like the Knight when he slashes at vicious bugs), Curse Of The Dead Gods’ Machete & Pistol, Guacamelee’s Pollo Power, Hyper Light Drifter’s Gun & Sword, and more.

It’s fun to see these guys teaming up like this, I wonder if we’ll see the Dead Cell stuff show up in any of the others? Curse Of The Dead Gods Adds Prisoner’s Lovely Flame Head this early year. I’ve yet to play Dead Cells myself, but the allure of Hollow Knight’s stuff might just be the last boost I need. I can wear a Knight costume and pretend it’s a Silksong!

… Or I can enjoy Dead Cells for what it is. Brendy has a lot to say about it in Evaluation of dead cells from 2018: “It enters your nervous system like a wonderful poison,” he writes. “The verbs ‘hack’ and ‘slash’ are rarely better used.”

The Everyone Here Update is out now on PC and will be available on consoles and Mac “very soon”. You can find Dead Cells On steam, Modest and GOG, it’s currently 40% off. It’s also on Epic game store, but it’s still full price there.

If you’re interested in any of the other games in this mini-cooperative, the update coincides with a new bundle on Steam containing Dead Cells, Curse Of The Dead Gods, Guacamelee 2, and Skul. It is called Indie friendsand costs £31/€35/$37.
