Best N95, KF94 and KN95 Masks (2024)


This standard evaluates masks based on filtration, breathability, and optionally leakage rates. If you need a large quantity of N95s at a low price, this package from Kimberly-Clark is one of the best options for you. Although these are NIOSH approved N95 respirators, they are not intended for medical use. If that’s not an issue for you, the side-folding pouch and bendable nose tube provide sturdy coverage on your face, while still costing under a dollar per the mask.

This fold-over mask uses two straps over your head to keep the mask snug against your face, while still leaving just the right amount of space in front of your mouth and nose. This is one of the more expensive masks on our list, but our team members have used them and found them to be comfortable and sturdy.

3M’s N95 respirators are individually wrapped and have two horizontal folds that create a moderately sized cup over your nose and mouth. The mask has two straps that go around your head and neck to keep it closed. This is one of the smaller packages on our list, but you can easily find it in stock at some stores.

Honeywell’s DF300 N95 is a more affordable option on this list. With this mask, you get multi-layered absorption (including a moisture-proof filter), a soft inner lining, and a latex-free headband. The nose clip is also adjustable and hidden underneath the mask. It also comes with a soft foam nose pad, making it more comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Vida’s KF94 mask is both protective And Stylish. Its listed by the FDA, CE certification (and made in Korea) and delivers 94% filtration efficiency. BOTN KF94 masks are only available in large and extra-large sizes for adults, so those with smaller faces should consider it. youth size, which also comes in multiple color options including beige, dark gray, pink and yellow. This one is constantly out of stock. LG’s Airwasher mask is a standard KF94 with a three-dimensional design, four-layer fabric, adjustable nose clip, and round ear loops. Although expensive, these masks are not only lightweight and comfortable but also super durable.

Children’s masks are a little trickier because health authorities don’t regulate them the same way, but this KN95 pack is one of our favorites. It is reusable and can be worn by children from 3 to 12 years old. It comes in blue, white or pink. It has been independently tested by several international product testing and quality assurance companies, and it’s the mask that WIRED editor Adrienne So’s kids used at school.

Our mask reviewer, Adrienne So, asked her kids to test these out. She said they fit well and masks that fit children are hard to find. They come in three sizes, for different ages, and will provide similar protection to a KN95—more protection than a standard surgical-style mask. If You Can’t Find a Mask, Try Project N95

Project N95 is not a specific type of mask but a nonprofit organization that connects personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies with the people and healthcare organizations that need them. During the height of the pandemic, it provided browsing capabilities organization’s market to find more masks and respirators as well as testing kits and other protective equipment.

Now that the national and public health emergency is over, Project 95 still provides access to previously vetted authentic and highly protective masks. But now each mask links to a third-party website (not controlled or operated by the nonprofit) to purchase them. The organization says these links are updated as of January 31, 2024.
