Tamarack, an orphaned cub, was badly burned in a forest fire. So his foot was treated by the care staff at a rehab center. He is ending his vacation at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care as he tunnels beneath the electric fence and finds his way back into the woods.

He may have left the center a little earlier than the rescuers intended, but he was a bear, and he belonged in the wilderness.

Even so, the rescue force to be wonder how he does out there, alone. Luckily, his former carers were able to track him down thanks to wildlife enthusiasts Tahoe Toogee. Tahoe has Many surveillance cameras were set up in the woods around his house. And they happened to get tons of footage of Tamarack.

While they may have been worried about the six-month-old cub’s health at first, footage shows the bear not only survived, but thrived.

“I am delighted to see its progress over all obstacles as an orphaned and healthy cub of the year, now yearning. It shows how tenacious wildlife can be when it comes to survival,” Tongee said.

Tahoe has tracked Tamarack’s movements and has captured a lot of extraordinary footage. In fact, he even captured the sweet smile of a cub plunging into a puddle and playing with a small toy bear he found. (Well, toys make bath time so much fun.)

No one knows where he found the toy or where it came from, but the footage has garnered quite a positive response. Even Tongee commented that the video phenomenally shows the softer side of both the black bear and the brown bear.

“I think it’s almost a perfect example of the mischief not only of the black bears but of all of them,” said Tongee.

After the short clip was posted on YouTube and went viral on social media, the short clip received hundreds of likes and shares.
