The Atlanta Braves Designated Midfielder Robinson Canoe for a transfer on Monday after the acquisition of the midfielder Ehire Adrianza in dealings with Citizens of Washington.
Adrianza, 32, has hit 0.179 with seven RBIs in 94 appearances across 31 games this season. The Nationals acquired quarterback Trey Harris in exchange for Adrianza, who played last season for the Braves and led the league’s major baseball with 16 tackles.
Cano, who was acquired by the Braves in a transaction with San Diego Padres last month, reaching .154 in 27 disc appearances in nine games for Atlanta.
Cano, 39, hit .333 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in Triple-A El Paso, the Padres affiliate Triple-A. But he has been vying for the pro league for the Padres, scoring just 0.91 in 34 appearances in 12 games.
The New York Mets released Cano in May after he hit the .150 mark with a home run and four RBIs in 43 appearances across 12 games. He missed the 2021 season while serving a second suspension for violating MLB’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
Overall, Cano is hitting the .150 mark with one home run in 104 major league appearances this season.
The Braves still don’t have a second warrior Ozzie Albies, who broke her foot in June. The heroes have relied on Orlando Arcia as his replacement.
Adrianza hit .247 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 209 appearances in more than 109 games last season for the Braves, also appearing in 10 games post-season during Atlanta’s World Series championship win. The Braves are currently in second place in the National League East, three games behind the first-placed Mets. They also took NL’s first wild card slot.
Harris, 26, hit 0.238 with two home runs and 16 RBIs for Double-A Mississippi this season.
The Mets owe Cano nearly $45 million remaining on the original 10-year, $240 million contract he signed with Seattle Mariners in 2013.
An eight-time All-Star, Cano averaged 0.301, 335 home runs and 1,306 RBI over his 17-year career.
