It’s rare to find a famous, beautiful and coveted movie car that still stands 60 years later. Consider that Aston Martin produced the DB5 from 1963 to 1965, sending just over 1,020 units to the world, but it seems like every six months we get a new car or something related to the car. Atelier Jalaper is the latest entry to make an entry in the second category. Two men had the idea to produce a watch using something from a historic car. After placing Jaguar E-Type, AC Cobra, Ferrari Sponsor cars F40 and Aston Martin DB5 took part in Instagram votes, people chose Bond, and the results were AJ-001 and AJ-002 watches.
The journey started with a successful Kickstarter campaign, which is the easy part. With the money in hand, it took the two men behind the company a year to find an authentic hood from an original DB5. To ensure provenance, Atelier Jalaper asked Aston Martin Works to verify the hood, a two-hour process that produced a 20-page report on the Silver Birch unit.
Later, the men visited Switzerland in search of engineers and watchmakers who could turn metal into a watch. The technique included jobs like flattening the hood and removing nine coats of paint while leaving the metalworking and rust marks of raw steel, and a 58-minute process to texture into the face. number. The actual clock bits include the Miyota automatic movement visible although the back is clear, the numerals resemble the odometer figures in the DB5, and a choice of two complications . AJ-001 has date, AJ-002 has date and month. Both are available in a polished steel case or a matte black PVD case. Prices start from €800 ($814 US) for the stainless steel AJ-001 and go up to €1,150 ($1,170 US) for the PVD black AJ-002.
