Amazon workers at a second warehouse on New York’s Staten Island will vote on whether to unionize next month, according to the federal labor agency.
Workers at the Staten Island warehouse, known as the LDJ5, will vote starting April 25, Kayla Blado, a spokeswoman for the National Labor Relations Board, confirmed to CNBC. The number of votes will be counted by this agency on May 2.
The election will take place in person at the facility, just weeks after an election is held at another Amazon warehouse called JFK8, less than a mile away. Elections at JFK8 will run between March 25 and March 30.
Workers at LDJ5 will vote on whether to join the Amazon Labor Union, a labor group that includes current and former Amazon employees. The same group sought to organize workers at JFK8. The group has been hit with anti-union efforts by Amazon, including regular detainee meetings, which workers are required to attend.
The background of worker activism on Staten Island comes as Amazon faces another union election elsewhere in the country. Last month, NLRB start sending mail vote for employees at the Bessemer, Alabama, Amazon warehouse, as part of the re-election run.
NLRB allow a second election at the site after it was determined Amazon had unlawfully interfered with the vote, the original vote taking place last spring. During that election, employees overwhelming vote against joining the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Alliance.
Votes in the Bessemer election will be counted on March 28.
