Alfa Romeo supercar to be unveiled in March 2023 – report


Alfa Romeo could announce a limited, exclusive supercar project next March.

Brand CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato told Autocar The project has not yet been given the green light, but work is still underway.

“When you visit the Arese museum, you see a lot of ideas from our past,” said Mr. Imparato.

At this stage, it is not clear whether the limited-run Alfa Romeo supercar will have an internal combustion engine (ICE), a hybrid or an all-electric powertrain.

It was speculated before this limited-running sports car could use a version of the Ferrari-developed 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 used in Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

Mr. Imparato alluded to Autocar that it will be a reservation model and not share parts with another Stellantis brand or model, such as Maserati MC20.

He added that the limited run car will not be just a race car, but one that can be driven daily.

“It can be iconic, super sexy and recognizable as an Alfa Romeo at first glance,” said Mr. Imparato.

“It is not finished yet, but it is ongoing. Positioning is in progress. We have a lot of fans asking for something special.”

Alfa Romeo has offered a few dedicated sports cars over the past two decades. The 8C Competizione, sold here from 2007 to 2010, is a vintage-inspired V8 front-engine grand tourer.

There are also 4Csold here from 2014 to 2021, which was a mid-size compact sports car powered by a 1.7-liter turbocharged engine.

Alfa Romeo’s current flagship sports car is the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan.

The company recently announced that they have return profitable and currently has a range of new cars under contract to launch through 2027.

The Tonale arrives locally from February next year, and will be followed by the Giulia and Stelvio updates that will arrive in the first half of 2023.

Mr. Imparato said to Autocar Alfa Romeo is working on an all-electric product for Jeep Avenger tipped to launch in 2024, an electric Giulia replacement due in 2025, as well as a larger electric SUV around 2026.

The brand will move to only sell electric vehicles (EVs) by 2027. It will follow its fellow Stellantis brands DS and Lancia, which will become EV-only in 2024.
