Junkyard gem: 2014 Chevrolet Impala Limited

What does an auto company do when it introduces a new generation of completely revised vehicles even if sales of its predecessor remain strong? In the case of 21st century General Motors, you keep creating both versions. That’s what GM did with the 10th generation Chevrolet Impala debuted as a model in 2014continue to build Ninth generation Impala for fleet-only sales throughout 2016 and call it Impala Limited. This is one of those not so rare but still interesting machines, recently found in a car cemetery in Colorado.

This 2016 Chevrolet police car promotional photo shows the Impala Limited on the left and the regular Impala on the right. In my opinion, the steel wheels on the Limited look better than the alloy wheels on the police car.

The tenth-generation Impala has moved from the aging W Platform to the global Epsilon II platform, making it a sibling to machines like the Opel Insignia and Saab 9-5. It is built for model years 2016 to 2020, making it the The ultimate Impala. That’s quite an achievement for a model dating from 1958.

This car is a good old W-Body, the chassis design dates back to 1988 Buick Regal, Pontiac Grand Prix And Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

That means the 2014-2016 Impala Limited is slightly shorter and much The interior is less spacious than Epsilon-based 2014-2020 Impalas, but so what? The fleet mechanics have worked on W-Bodies for many years and know them well, plus there is plenty of manufacturing capacity available.

GM has followed a similar path with Classic Chevrolet a decade earlier; Malibu people switched to the Epsilon platform in 2004 (making it a sibling to the Saab 9-3 and Saturn Aura), while the N-Body version remained in production for fleet sales only until 2006.

This car’s engine is a high-performance 3.6-liter DOHC V6 with variable valve timing, rated at an impressive 302 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. These cars were fast thanks to their curb weight of just over 3,600 pounds.

The only transmission available is a six-speed automatic. In fact, the last model year for a manual transmission in the U.S.-market Impala was 1973 (when a Three-speed column shifting handmade is basic equipment on six-cylinder cars).

I traveled and rented cars around the country during the heyday of Impala Limited, as wise And Respect the Chief Justice of Lemons’ 24 Hour Supreme Court and every Lemons employee preferred the ninth-generation Impala over all other lease options between 2006-2016. Even when poorly maintained, these cars always run quite well, plus they are equipped with good sound systems and powerful engines. In fact, we often organize drag races between various rental cars on long straightaways at racetracks; Here I was officiating a race between a rental Maxima and a rental Impala Limited at GingerMan Raceway in Michigan (the Limited won, as it almost always does).

I always appreciate the Aux input jack on the Impala Limited’s radio when I rent these cars; This very useful feature is still quite difficult to find on rental cars in the mid-2010s.

The tenth-generation Impala has a larger interior than the Limited and a smoother ride, but I was disappointed when the ninth-generation cars left the rental fleet.

I haven’t documented any first generation Impalas in junkyards, but I Have Take photos of used examples of second letter, the third day, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday And Saturday generations (including Bel Airs, Biscaynes, Caprice and other members of the Impala family).

Clinkscales Chevrolet in South Carolina We’ve got a deal on the ninth generation Impala for you!

It’s a whole new animal.
