Adobe includes Frame.io in Creative Cloud for free

If you’re getting into the video production industry, you’ll have to start collaborating with colorists, motion graphics artists, and clients. You will also start using cloud-based uploading for review. You’ll be happy to know Frame.io is now live in Adobe Creative Cloud, so if you’re a Premiere Pro user, you’ll get a great workflow enhancer for free.

Adobe bought Frame.io last year. Cloud-based software has provided a review and collaboration tool for all NLEs, and I’ve been using it since I started working with colorists and clients.

I’ve switched between Premiere Pro, Final Cut, and Da Vinci, depending on the project, but I’ve always had problems collaborating when it’s not Premiere Pro. It’s just the industry standard in the social video and advertising space, and it’s a definite standard that you’ll need to collaborate.

For motion graphics, video editing, and coloring, it’s easy to upload a timeline with footage and share with stakeholders. It’s great that the modified versions can then be downloaded and dragged into Premiere Pro for you to render the video for distribution.

Frame.io is also great for customer reviews. Customers do not need to register an account. You can send them a link via email or messaging app, allowing them to watch live video and comment on a per second basis. It’s much easier than letting your customers write down long emails and it’s much more pleasant and can be done in a fraction of the time. So. you know exactly what needs to be changed in your edit and can provide final results sooner.

This new update provides an additional 100 GB of cloud storage. The last project I worked on consisted of 32 social videos and I needed to provide the alpha channels, ProRes and H.264 format of the video as well as the audio content. It ended up being 800 GB for distribution, which is a lot. I could argue that when it comes to the approval process, you’re likely to share lower quality videos, which could easily fit into your 100GB Creative Cloud Subscription. However, I currently only subscribe to Frame.io if I know the project will need it, so it’s not a monthly subscription like Adobe Creative Cloud for my business.

I’m glad Adobe included Frame.io in their subscription service. It’s a great tool. You will be able to update as you are reading this.
