A Huge Cloud of Smoke Invades Eastern Washington, No More Heatwaves in the Northwest, and Meteorological Fall is Here
My podcast today covers a lot of territory, but I’ll provide some highlights here.
First, a plume of MASSIVE wildfire smoke is spreading across eastern Washington right now (see image). The smoke is from the Cedar Creek fire in the western Oregon Cascades that erupted last night.
The smoke was so dense that it would cause significant cooling in eastern Washington today (smoke scattering/reflecting solar radiation back into space).
Smoke is evident in eastern Washington.

Second, the latest expansion forecasts suggest that heat waves have passed this year for the Northwest. There is little chance that west of Washington will exceed 85F for the rest of the year. It is very unlikely that eastern Washington will exceed 100F.
Check out the forecasts below! After mid-September, such warm temperatures are highly unlikely for our region.
Finally, my podcast talks about all the signs of meteorological decline: shorter days, longer nights, colder minimum temperatures, return of rain, stronger jet streams, etc.
