While Ikelite decided not to attend this year’s DEMA Show, the company has a lot to say to the DPGers in Recent videos detailing its new products. You won’t need a pair of tweezers to set the DS51’s flicker. The power/exposure strobe switch stands out on the back of the strobe with bright white detail making it easy to see where it’s pointing.

When used in TTL mode with a compatible TTL converter, your camera measures the scene and automatically adjusts the flicker output.

True TTL exposure

TTL flash exposure takes advantage of the camera’s sophisticated metering system to automatically adjust flash output. In TTL flash mode, the camera fires the flash first – before the photo is taken – and uses the information it receives to adjust the output in time for the photo. Our exclusive line of TTL converters translates this signal for accurate flash exposure underwater with the Ikelite DS strobe. Simply leave the strobe light in the TTL setting and focus on the camera’s exposure and composition settings.

The advantages of TTL metering are far greater than simply varying flash output. TTL improves recycle times, enables continuous shooting, and saves battery life for both your camera and strobe. TTL is important when photographing fast-moving subjects both large and small.

Mix and match

Most shooters choose one or two DS51 II flashes for macro and dual DS51 II flashes for wide angle. Combining the DS51 with brighter strobes such as the DS160 II, DS162 or DS230, can also add depth and contrast to your images. Add a less intense flash as an auxiliary when mixing flashes of different intensities.

Flexibility in activation

The DS51 II supports multiple activation methods to suit almost any application in, out and around water.

Activate the DS51 II directly from your camera using the power sync cord with ICS-5 . plug or by adding an option fiber optic adapter. The DS51 II supports exposure communication with most popular camera models using the series high precision TTL converter.

Remote Activation supported by both an optional extension cord and/or an optical sub-converter. Position your spotlight at a distance from your camera for a variety of creative lighting arrangements including cave lighting, off-camera wreck lighting, and pool studio photography.

When using optical or fiber optic auxiliary triggers, each blink requires its own trigger device. When using the DS Link TTL Converter, connect the two strobes with dual Y-shaped sync wires.
