Warm weather for ice cream and sunshine for both humans and their companion dogs. While there are dozens of homemade dog ice cream recipes that you can make yourself, sometimes, regardless of convenience or lack of time, a ready-made option is the way to go.

My dogs love store-bought dog ice cream, especially during the hot summer months. I usually look for products with real ingredients, like peanut butter, bananas, and yogurt. There is also a wide range of ready-made ice creams that even allergy-prone pups can enjoy, including grain and lactose-free options. The most important is Avoid giving your dog ice cream made for humans Due to the possibility of lactose intolerance in your pet, high amounts of sugar or added flavoring may be harmful to your puppy.

With the help of my puppies, Remy and Lucy, we set out on a journey to find, test and verify the best store that bought ice cream and frozen treats for dogs. Check out our recommendations below!

7 best ice cream treats for dogs, according to Real Pups

Maple bacon ice cream bowl

It wasn’t easy for Remy and Lucy to pick a favorite; if you ask them, they love all the food. But after much thought and dog feedback, Puppy Scoop’s Maple Bacon is finally on the market. This ice cream does not harden with the flour mixture, you add water and freeze for at least five hours. Once frozen, leave it on the counter for 15 minutes before scooping. Remy and Lucy have become avid fans of bacon-flavored treats, and this ice cream is no exception. They both quickly finished their meals and tried to convince me to give them more for the rest of the night.

This frozen dog treat is sure to get any doggy party going with its mix of peanut butter and crackers. Like Ben & Jerry’s human ice cream, this dog-specific version is packed with flavors and creams to keep your furry friend cool on hot days. After tasting it, Remy reluctantly delivered the empty box even after he had licked it all out, in case there was any leftover ice cream. Dogsters ice cream cup

Overall score: 4.6 stars

These have long been a favorite in my family. We almost always have a few of these on hand in our freezers just in case our dogs need something cool. They’re made with a creamy and cheese flavored cake that dogs love and are super convenient because they’ve been frozen. Even when Remy tasted the new dish just four feet away from Lucy, she kept an eye on this frozen treat, sticking with it until the cup was empty.

Pooch Creamery carob for dogs

Overall score: 4.5 stars

Don’t let dogs with allergies miss out on the ice cream party. If your dog is allergic to lactose or grains, grab some Pooch Creamery carob flavored ice cream for a delightful treat. It contains only five ingredients and is very easy to make by adding water and freezing for eight hours. Once frozen, instructions note to place it on the counter for 15 minutes before serving. In my experience, ice cream remains thick in the middle after waiting for the allotted time, so you may need to let it sit longer for ease of application.

Purina Frosty Paws

Overall score: 4.7 stars

Purina is a popular dog food brand, so it’s no surprise that they also have a line of frozen dog food. These ice-cold pedicure cups are high in protein and have no added sugar. The smooth and soft texture makes it easy for large and small dogs to eat without difficulty. Although Lucy tends to be a fast eater (I’m pretty sure she just inhales her food), she and Remy seem to enjoy eating this without much work. You can also smell the peanut butter when you open the cup, as my dogs eagerly sniff the air before they can enjoy the treat.

Cup of frozen yogurt for dogs

Overall score: 4.8 stars

If you’re looking for a treat that serves up some nutrients, give your dog a treat with this frozen favorite. This cup of frozen yogurt is packed with gut-friendly probiotics to promote your dog’s digestion. When I tested this with Remy, I was a bit worried about how he would react, as he can be quite sophisticated about bananas. When I put this on the ground in front of him, he continued to happily lick the frozen treat until there was nothing left. I even almost grabbed a spoonful of this ice cream after opening the top to reveal a delicious ice cream that looked delicious.
