I often try to unpack what I love about street photography. Maybe it’s the lack of (conventional) artifice or how realistic the genre tends to be, but I’ve always been fascinated by it. Like wildlife photography, it requires dedication and patience to stand a chance of getting a great shot, and that’s before you consider the technical and theoretical side of a great photo. .
There are so many street photographers that I’m inspired and interested in, from Vivian Maier to Bill Cunningham, but there’s one photographer I’ve discussed before because I believe he encapsulates one of the most important elements. My favorite element of the profession: the ability to master the light. That photographer is Fan. The Chinese photographer is a true master of lighting and composition and I may have to do an important work for him one day!
