Where to focus and how to expose landscape photos

Two of the most basic but equally complex aspects of landscape photography are knowing where to place your focus point and what to expose for. If you’re new to the genre and want to improve, check out this helpful video tutorial that will guide you through two topics with lots of helpful examples.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this great video tutorial will show you how to expose a landscape photo and where to set the focus point. An important technique to learn is to use hyperfocal distance. The superfocal distance is simply the closest focusing distance at which infinity objects are still in focus. In other words, it is the focusing distance that will give you the maximum depth of field. While you may sometimes want to focus on the super close-up, the super-focal distance will allow you to tackle a variety of situations and deliver sharp images. An application like PhotoPills usually has a built-in hyperfocal distance calculator. Watch the video above for a full rundown from Morganti.
