There are two versions of the six-cylinder Hurricane. Both have a displacement of 3.0 liters and a pair of turbochargers. And considering the relatively large difference in fuel economy, we would definitely go for a regular Wagoneer L and simply opt for it to bring it closer to a Grand Wagoneer.
Of course, the obvious question is do short-wheelbase Wagoneer models get the Hurricane? Well, Jeep hasn’t said it yet. But the EPA has listed the Grand Wagoneer with a hurricane 510. On another note, the extra length doesn’t really affect the driving experience much. It makes cruising at low speeds a bit more complicated, with wider revs and simply more vehicles to manage, but otherwise it drives like a regular Wagoneer, must say it’s great. It’s quiet, it’s comfortable, and it’s (dare we say?) almost fun to hustle. The steering is precise, has a bit of feel and it doesn’t lean too much. And of course, the long Wagoneers have the same wonderfully designed and furnished interiors. Grand Wagoneers is especially luxurious with real wood, leather and metal trim details and high-end sound system. They are definitely opponents of Cadillac and Lincoln. But even the not-so-large Wagoneers are one step above the baseline Chevy and Ford options.
There is one final small downside to the Wagoneer line, and that is the fact that it is a bit expensive. The base Wagoneer L with two-wheel drive starts at $64,495, and four-wheel drive adds another $3,000. That makes the Wagoneer L several thousand more expensive than the Chevy and Ford options. Despite the extra cost, we still recommend long Wagoneers. New tools make them better than ever on paper and in real life. And now they’re bigger than ever.
