2022 Volkswagen ID.4 range enhanced, now up to 280 miles

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is getting a range boost, VW announced Tuesday in a press release, including a bunch of EPA estimates that have yet to be officially released.

Estimates point to a significant improvement in range. VW says the base rear-wheel drive 2022 ID.4 Pro has a range of 280 miles – 20 miles more than the 2021 version. VW says the rear-wheel drive 2022 ID.4 Pro S has range vi 268 km, compared to 250 km of the 2021 version.

These range figures come with efficiency estimates of 112 MPGe combined (121 MPGe city, 102 MPGe highway) for the Pro and 106 MPGe combined (115 MPGe city, 97 MPGe highway) for the Pro S, according to VW. Those are comprehensive improvements over the 2021 MPGe figures.

With all-wheel drive, the ID.4 2022 will achieve a range of 251 miles in Pro and 245 miles in Pro S, an increase of 2 miles and 5 km respectively over the all-wheel drive 2021 Pro S version. full time cake.

Efficiency estimates are 101 MPGe combined (106 MPGe city, 96 MPGe highway) for the all-wheel drive ID.4 Pro and 106 MPGe combined (115 MPGe city, 97 MPGe highway) for Pro S model with four-wheel drive. Again, these represent improvements over comparable 2021 models.

VW announced that the range boost was coming last month—with faster charging, with a peak of 135 kw compared to the previous 125 kw and a price increase of $765. Innovations come from two different areas, Volkswagen confirms Green Car Report: While the scope improvements are from “component maturity and continuous improvement” throughout the ID.4’s battery and motor systems, the charging improvement will be an over-the-air update that hasn’t been released yet.

The supply of ID.4 models built at VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant is also is expected to start this fall.

2022 ID.4 still uses the 82 kWh battery pack and the powertrain remains unchanged. Rear-wheel drive models still use a single permanent-magnet synchronous motor that produces 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive models add a second motor powering the front axle, with a combined 295 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque between the two engines.

In our many driving experiences, we found the ID.4’s range rating to be quite close to pretty close to real world conditions. The range increase will also make the ID.4 more competitive against the Nissan Ariya, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, all of which are expected in delivery models. 300 miles or more in several versions.

Does this make the ID.4 closer in numbers — or under consideration — to the Tesla Model Y, base price increase to $17,000 during last year?
