Whenever the road gets zigzag, we’re excited to be on Tracer. With a rough engine, great chassis and semi-active suspension, we hit corners with delight, enjoying the confidence a well-classified motorcycle can provide.

To get to the good stuff, we’ve recorded many miles on the rock. One of our takeaways is how busy the engine is in 6th gear at highway speeds. At 65 mph, the engine turns 4,200 rpm. We didn’t count how many times we captured the ghost shift to 7 thinking there might be another device on top. We wanted to try a rear sprocket with fewer teeth to make shifting higher.

For maintenance, we have periodically checked tire pressure, oil level, chain tension and lubrication, etc. We have changed the oil and filter every 5,000 miles, and we use Yamalube products. is recommended. We also took the Tracer to a local Yamaha dealer following a safety recall notice that all MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT 2021-22 models had an improperly programmed ECU that could cause The engine stops working unexpectedly under certain circumstances. It was quickly repaired at no cost.

Tracer showed zero tolerance for clutch laziness when stopping the car, both before and after the recall repair. If the appropriate number of spins is not available, we will stop the Tracer as a novice.

After about 5,000 miles of strenuous use, the rear tire of the Bridgestone Battlax T32 GT has been raised. We tested on a set of Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart IV radial lenses and they provided excellent grip and ride quality. Installation is very simple. The Touring windshield is 2.8 inches wider and 3.2 inches taller than stock, and it made a big difference in windbreak. Tracer’s 30-litre saddlebag is large enough to hold a full-face helmet on each side. The 50L top case brings total storage capacity to 110 liters and the backrest cushion is appreciated by passersby.

Over the course of nearly 6,300 miles, we averaged 44.4 mpg, or 222 miles over a 5-gallon tank (premium unleaded claim). Our fuel economy ranged from as high as 60.4 mpg to as low as 33.7 mpg, after giving it a hit in a high wind.
