A backyard makeover for our outdoor pavilion (Before + After!)

When we first moved in our home nearly two years ago, the yard was a hot mess and it clearly needed a backyard makeover.

It looked like it was full of beautiful flower beds and manicured bushes from decades ago, but it had been left out for so long that we ended up tearing it all down and starting over.

Nestled in the courtyard is a small pavilion that also has that “forgotten” feel, and I’m not sure when we’ll actually have time to get there, based on all the other projects we’ve worked on. must do. But guess what?? Done!

We made it through parking at our last house turned into a beautiful covered outdoor area and we really enjoyed having a sheltered space with comfortable seating where you can cool off in the summer and enjoy an autumn day outside. fire table.

So we decided to make our booth serve as the same for us here, and it’s such a cozy vibe that it’s totally worth the wait.

See the rest of my before + after home tours such as…

While the structure of the pavilion hasn’t technically changed much, we removed the rotting sideboards and installed extra rocking racks to the beams of the rafters so we could leave the sides open for access. have better vision.

We also uniformly painted the pavilion in a warm light black to modernize it a bit and painted the entire underside of the roof, which was previously just plain plywood. It looks a lot better when you are inside the structure.

The roof shingles come in a variety of brown colors and we painted them black to match the rest of it. Did you know you can draw shingles? I will share more about that process soon…

We also added a paved walkway to the pavilion and I love how it feels like you are entering a cozy cottage now.

we love there is an Articles section in our last space, so we chose this corner from them for the booth, and it’s perfect for the space.

I love that it has a built-in Acacia side table so you have a place to put your drinks (or a few small plants) and it’s the perfect size to spread out and lounge around while I’m reading or with a few friends come and sit by the fire.

Modular cushion design creates a more modern feel with a sleek powder-coated frame and lightweight cushions that are easy to clean.

Since we painted the structure black, I also wanted to add some black to the furniture, so I chose this round lounge chair. It’s the perfect addition to the space.

It’s big enough that we could sit in it with our daughter for a cuddle, and the synthetic wicker accents are weather-resistant, but also add a bit of natural-looking material.

What is an outdoor seating area without pillows? I chose this set of bigger pink pillow and this orange waist pillow to add a little color and make sure we can lounge comfortably.

For a more natural texture, I added woven round pillow (similar here) to match the seat wicker details. I love how all the pillows work together.

I wanted to add a little color to the rug, so I chose This pink outdoor rug fills most of the space. These terrazzo planters beautiful — I love that they come in large and small sizes.

They have some pink spots in them as well as blues and grays to add some texture dimension to the decor. I’ll probably bring them indoors in the winter because they’re too pretty to be left open all winter.

I also added a little pink by hang some of these growers in the macrame plant owners I’ve got (similar to thiseven though these are cute too). Adding some greenery to the space above helped balance the plants on the floor.

Outdoor spaces are all about mood lighting, so I added these LED string lights that we were in our last house with the truss beams of the pavilion. I love it if you add this you can fade them (to whatever you want) to set the mood.

I also had these lanterns that I put in the space and I love the natural look they add — and they’re battery-powered (things like that) here).

And I feel like I can never have an outdoor space again without a fire table, and this one is perfect for space. The white concrete is really nice with light colored cushions on the furniture.

You should protect your outdoor furniture for a long life, so we have part cover to go over the couch and a cover for the fire table to use when out of season or if severe weather is forecast.

Overall, the fresh cleaning and painting of the booth, the perfect furniture, adding mood lights and landscaping that we worked hard on really made this space feel like a cozy space. revive.

I hope that you agree! If you need me this fall, I’ll be here by the fire, hot chocolate in hand… xo. Laura
