2 cops killed in Connecticut shooting
Two police officers were killed and another seriously injured while responding to calls for domestic violence in Bristol, Conn., authorities said early Thursday.
Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut identified two dead officers as a member of the Bristol Police Department. Ordering the state’s flag to be lowered to half a staff, he called the shooting a “devastating” reminder of the dangers police officers face in defense.
The shooting happened late Wednesday in a residential area in the Redstone Hill Road area of Bristol, a town in central Connecticut about 80 miles northeast of New York City. TV station WFSB reported.
A witness told an NBC reporter At the scene, he heard multiple gunshots and then heard a helicopter fly over the area.
Connecticut State Police scheduled a news conference for Thursday morning, but provided some other details about the shooting.
“We are still working diligently to gather accurate information from our investigators and all involved,” state police said.
Around 7am, a convoy of police cars, with their emergency lights flashing, quietly accompanied the two dead officers from Bristol Hospital to the medical examiner’s office in Farmington on Thursday morning.
