Last year, stores, large retailers and fast food chains closed on Thanksgiving Day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And for the second year in a row, most major retailers and food venues will close their stores on Thursday.
Target Monda announcedy that their stores will no longer be open on Thanksgiving Day – a move that started last year as a one-off due to the pandemic but that is now a permanent change.
“What started as a pandemic-fueled interim measure is now our new standard – one that recognizes our ability to accommodate guests’ holiday wishes both during and after business hours. store,” Target CEO Brian Cornell explained in a note to employees, according to The Associated Press.
Earlier this year, Walmart announced Dacona Smith, executive vice president and chief executive officer of Walmart US, said their stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, as a “thank you” to all of their associates for they worked hard during the pandemic.
Other major retail chains, such as Best Buy, JCPenney and Kohl’s have also announced they will be closing this Thanksgiving – instead, prompting customers to start shopping online on Black Friday this year instead. .
