The Mercedes-Maybach S580e plug-in hybrid is currently on sale in Thailand for 9,880,000 baht (RM1.3 million). That means the PHEV Z223 is almost half the price of the pure ICE-powered version. Mercedes-Maybach S580entered the Thai market last August at a price of 18,300,000 baht (RM2.41 million).

The big difference in RRP is because the new Maybach S580e is both a plug-in hybrid and a locally assembled CKD model. S580 launched as a complete imported CBU. In Malaysia, the Maybach S580 launched in March 2022 for RM1,928,816, with 50% off Covid era SST. Not our “regular” Maybach W223 Mercedes-Benz S580e priced at RM708,888.

The Mercedes-Maybach S580e plug-in hybrid system combines the 3.0-liter M256 inline six-cylinder petrol engine producing 367 hp/500 Nm to a 150 hp/440 Nm electric motor sandwiched between the engine. engine and 9G-Tronic transmission. Combined, the system’s total output is 510 PS and 750 Nm, which is good enough to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

It’s the same PHEV combo found in the W223 S580e, capable of going all-electric for a range of 100 km on the WLTP cycle. This impressive figure is thanks to the lithium-ion battery pack that has doubled in capacity to 28.6 kWh. The W223 S580e on our market does not have an optional CCS charging port, but it is available on the Maybach, meaning it can fast charge DC up to 60 kW.

What makes Maybach become Maybach? Firstly, the 5,469 mm long limo is 180 mm longer than the LWB S-Class, and all that length boils down to a 3,396 mm wheelbase, benefiting the tycoon at the rear. Width is identical to the W223 at 1,921 mm, although the Maybach’s height has been raised slightly to 1,510 mm.

Underneath the skin, the Maybach Z223 rides on an Airmatic air suspension fitted with a 48-volt E-Active Body Control active roll stabilization system, which uses a stereo camera to scan the road ahead. The car also comes with a rear-wheel steering system, which can rotate the rear wheel up to 4.5 degrees, shortening the rotation by 2 meters. The unique Maybach driving mode softens throttle response, shifts at lower revs and starts in second gear for maximum comfort.
