Routers are now an important accessory in the modern home. With so many streaming services, consoles, mobile devices, and Internet of Things (IoT) products for networking and management, the basic routers your ISP provides are not the best option – and especially when it comes to getting the most out of your broadband contract.
Older routers, when faced with a flurry of connection requests, can get congested. This can cause service drops, content streaming lag, problems with video calls, or it can cause your router to stop working completely, forcing you to reboot.
Upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) can mitigate many of these issues as the protocol includes faster speeds and increases the number of streams and channels available on the band, reducing congestion.
While Wi-Fi 5 is still adequate, the new protocol is worth considering if you want to keep your router up and running for the next few years. Mesh routertoo, should be considered.
Alternatively, if you are satisfied with the previous generation Wi-Fi 5 model, the TP-Link Archer AC4000 Wi-Fi 5 router will be sold at Best Buy for $99$100 off its usual retail price.
