From Jameis to Trevor to Taysom, the Saints QB room has quite a few names.
With Jameis Winston out for the year due to an ACL injury, the Saints switched to Trevor Siemian to start instead of Taysom Hill following the injury. Siemian, the NFL’s starting reserve, won 0-4 in four starts, throwing nine touchdowns and three interceptions (57.2 completion rate).
But Sean Payton and the Saints didn’t seem too pleased with the Siemian production as a starter, which led to Hill once again starting for the Saints on “Thursday Night Football.”

Why is Trevor Siemian on the Saints bench for Taysom Hill?
While Saints head coach Sean Payton didn’t specifically say why (or when) Hill would start Siemian again, the wall reads: The Saints are turning to Hill to help start an offense happened beneath Trevor Siemian in recent weeks.
To put it simply: Hill won 3-1 last season in Drew Brees’ absence, while Siemian is now 0-4 at the start of “Thursday Night Football.” In weeks 11 and 12, Siemian threw 4 touchdowns to 3 interceptions and lost 377 yards to the Eagles and Bills.
While Siemian is relatively charismatic, the lack of repulsive production isn’t just in his hands. The Saints have had to deal with numerous injuries to key attacking players: Rerun Alvin Kamara for the Cowboys game, as well as start dealing with Ryan Ramczyk and Terron Armstead.
Wideout Michael Thomas, who is expected to return to the pitch at some point in 2021, was ruled out in early November.
Hill suffered a leg injury in Week 10 that kept him out strictly for “emergency use”, and while Payton played in the starting situation on Thursday, Hill received warm-up rep. leading up to Thursday’s game.
Wednesday’s practice reportedly shows that Hill’s foot is good enough to start on Thursday.
It helps with that too Hill recently signed a pretty big, unique extension that could earn him a pretty penny if things continue to progress as they are.
