Looking at faces in more detail than we usually do in social settings is exceptional. Movies that show us these faces give us the human connection we crave in our daily lives. The first thing we do when we meet someone is look at their face. That’s how we analyze and find answers to our ideas about the human condition.
As photographers, what can we learn from the effect that large faces have on us? Perhaps, as visual artists, we often underestimate the talent and skill we have when observing and seeing certain works. Really looking out into the world around us, to see the details and importance of texture, light and color is a powerful thing. If you are a portrait photographer, capturing the face and the complex emotions expressed in the person’s face is another way for the viewer to have a chance to connect on an emotional level, which at this point in the world is of great value.
