• Rory McIlroy (February 17): The defending champion is back in action after a dramatic Sunday finish at the Masters in early April. Nearly a month out of the competition, McIlroy isn’t in the same good mood as Quail Hollow but has fond memories of the Washington DC area, winning the 2011 US Open championship down the street at Congressional Country Club. He has quietly added in length this season, ranking 27th on the Tour in hits from teeing ground, and it has turned profitable as he racked up seven top 20 finishes in just 11 starts. Some may be scared off by his miss at the RBC Heritage, but the pitch, pitch and conditions will suit Fitzpatrick’s hands and allow him to compete for his maiden title.

Winner at TPC River Highlands, a course with many similarities With this week’s venue, Leishman should find a nice comfort level around the property. So far, it’s been a subtle but consistent 2021-22 season for the Australian, connecting with 13 of the 14 cuts and winning a first-year finish pair in the process.
