The HD-2D genre has a new exciting
The pixel RPG genre has enjoyed a boost since the end of the year, and Codename: Wandering Sword looks to keep the momentum going. This particular RPG has gone viral on social media, and for good reason: it looks pretty cool.
Codename: Wandering Sword is a new game from Xiameng Studio. The developer describes it as a Wuxia-style pixel RPG where the player takes the role of a young man involved in a serious feud. After your life is saved, you embark on a grand journey in the Central Plains.
Pixel art jumps off me instantly, bringing in some Octopath’s Traveler herd increases capacity. The Steam page boasts quite a feature list, including multiple story endings, a massive open world, and NPCs with friendships to win. Getting to know characters from different sects will help your protagonist learn new martial arts and abilities, which will certainly come in handy when it’s time to walk away.
Xiameng Studios describes its combat as allowing players to choose the style they want. Tactical diggers can adopt a traditional turn-based combat approach; Meanwhile, those who prefer action can play in real-time combat mode with “precise action input”.
I’m really curious to see what that looks like in action. But even just being a tactical Wuxia RPG made me excited.
Fist of Fury
Although there have been some Wuxia-inspired games before, like BioWare’s Jade Empireit is still relatively unexplored. Codename: Wandering Sword feels like a neat concept, while also incorporating some neat ideas from the RPG side.
This appears to be a debut effort by Xiameng Studios. But with a great concept and some solid footage in that trailer, I’d love to see where this goes. No dates have been booked yet Codename: Wandering Sword. You can keep up with the project by wish it was here on Steam.
