Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen will serve in the Finnish army during the season
Utah Jazz striker Lauri Markkanen has revealed his plans for a break after the explosive 2022-23 season – the Finnish-born player will return to his homeland to do his mandatory military service, per ESPN.
Finland’s male citizens must serve in the country’s military when they turn 30. Finland was accepted into NATO earlier this week as the region remains the center of global attention after the war. Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
“I think it’s an example to serve,” Markkanen told ESPN. “And I’m confident that I can do it in a way that won’t affect my preparation for next season.”
the Old University of Arizona star formed his first NBA All-Star team in 2022-23. He is averaging 25.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in his first season with the Jazz.
Markannen spent his first four NBA seasons with Chicago bulls and 2021-22 with Cleveland Cavaliers before being changed to Jazz as part of the star protection package Donovan Mitchell final season. Jazz is currently in 12th place in the Western Conference, 1.5 games in the Play-In Tournament.
