Scottie Scheffler are the consensus betting favorites to win this week’s PGA championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but the biggest reported bet on the tournament is on a 60-1 long shot named Tiger Woods.
Scheffler, who recently won the Masters, is the favorite this week with a 11-1 score at Caesars Sportsbook. Jon Rahm followed by 12-1, followed by Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, each person 14-1. However, the majority of the bet goes to Woods, thanks to a big bet on the 15-time major champion.
Caesars Sportsbook on Tuesday reported betting $20,000 on Woods to win the tournament at 60-1 odds. Betting is done in cash, over the counter at Caesars Sportsbook at the Cosmopolitan hotel and casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. If Woods wins, the bet pays out a net $1.2 million, one of the largest payouts ever for a golf bet.
A $20,000 golf bet is an exception, especially on a 60-1 long shot. The next biggest bet the Caesars made for Thursday morning’s tournament was $5,000 on Rahm.
Craig Mucklow, director of trading at Caesars Sportsbook, told ESPN: “It’s amazing how much of a draw for the Tigers.” “We have always had a responsibility to him regardless of his price. [betting] industry. We want him to play, not the responsibility. “
BetMGM is in a similar position, with Woods laying out the sport’s greatest responsibility to win the tournament.
