UPMC spinoff partners with MSK to mine unstructured data for cancer

Realyze Intelligence, created in 2021 by UPMC to apply artificial intelligence and natural language processing to cancer and chronic diseases treatment datasets, is partnering with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer on a partnership new analysis.

WHY IT IMPORTANT
MSK’s innovation center is working with Realyze to mine real-world data from the unstructured text of patients’ electronic health records to help improve cancer research and treatment.

MSK, which has a financial stake in Realyze, is using its service-like platform capabilities to analyze longitudinal patient records and other datasets to extract information to help scientists and clinicians continue to research and develop new models of cancer treatment using patient-specific briefs.

Realyze’s natural language understanding can understand insights from unstructured text notes in a patient’s EHR faster and more efficiently – enabling useful information to help physicians oncologists and other clinicians make more informed and timely treatment decisions.

“Our goal is to help health systems and cancer centers understand and use their data to make patient care easier and more efficient,” said Realyze Intelligence CEO Aaron Brauser. said in a statement. “By partnering with the MSK Innovation Hub, we have the opportunity to improve care and quality of life for patients undergoing cancer treatment by ensuring their healthcare team has accurate information and makes the most sense.”

TREND TO BIGGER WOMAN
Last month, we reported that researchers at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center are using Realyze Intelligence technology to understand the utility of a sentinel lymph node biopsy, or SLNB, for breast cancer patients early stage under 70 years old.

“By using the Realyze platform instead of a cancer registry, we are able to extract large amounts of data in real time quickly and efficiently,” said Dr Adrian Lee, director of the Institute of Primary Medicine. UPMC/University of Pittsburgh and breast cancer investigator, said in a statement about the unpublished research study.

Meanwhile, a HIMSSCast episode from this past March shows how the Memorial Sloan Kettering Alliance is advancing cancer research with precision cancer treatments in clinical trials.

ON PROFILE
“We look forward to partnering with Realyze through this innovative partnership,” John Philip, senior director of MSK’s Research Support Platform, said in a statement. “Data in the clinical notes of a patient’s medical record can open up important scientific and clinical correlations. Being able to collect this information in a more efficient way could make it possible. helps connect patients to critical resources and helps physicians develop the most optimal care plans for their patients.”
