TSA and Clear to launch a single application for both programs

The US Transportation Security Administration is expected to release a single app for travelers to check in. Pre-check TSA And Ventilationaccording to a spokesperson from each security express program.

When asked about a Needham’s analysis report show that Clear is set to launch TSA PreCheck registered at several airports in early May, the TSA objected to this point.

Both Clear and PreCheck have more than 14 million members, with TSA PreCheck member numbers growing to 14.3 million in 2022, representing a 27% growth from 2021, according to the analysis.

The expanded partnership is the result of requirements set forth by the TSA Modernization Act and the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018.

However, analyst Josh Reilly surmises that “the opportunity for Clear to accelerate PreCheck adoption is crucial”, saying “credible Traveler penetration”, which includes both PreCheck and Global Entry. , which could grow to 129 million passengers, reflecting a 30 percent year-on-year increase in passengers boarding TSA aircraft since February.

“Clear has been on a mission to make the experience safer and easier since day one, so we look forward to being the authorized TSA PreCheck subscription provider to help bring TSA PreCheck registration reaching more people in more places,” the spokesperson said by email.

Experts, including Reilly, expect PreCheck renewals and new signups to increase once this single app launches.

“It’s like a lion lying with a lamb because TSA PreCheck and Clear had a controversial relationship at one point,” he said. Henry Harteveldt, an aviation and travel industry analyst and president of Atmosphere Research. “TSA feels that Clear is undercutting some of its areas in terms of passenger screening, creating some tension with airports, but at the same time, Clear has shown that it understands biometrics and it can can help improve the productivity of the passenger screening process at the airport.”

Both TSA and Clear declined to comment further on the expansion, including whether the current price of each ($78 for a 5-year PreCheck membership, $189 annually for Clear) will remain the same.

However, according to Harteveldt, it seems more likely that both programs will be applicable.
