If you haven’t heard Slothrust, you missed out. I was introduced to the Boston-based three-piece puzzle during my college years, with the release of everyone else, but they keep getting better with each album. Last year, however, they upped their game: They made my oldest high school sweetheart the featured artist.
Laziness (sloth-rust, not slo-thrust) is best known for its dream-heavy depth gauges, almost surroundings music tracks. There’s something for everyone on their record, up to and including “fans of non-Slothrust artists. ” Sorry, Marcy Playground, but “Sex and Candy” is currently a Slothrust track.
Leah Wellbaum has one of the best vocals in the business right now, and the wailing guitar fits perfectly. It seems that only Lzzy Hale could be a featured artist, and she did so with her beautiful quote about “The Next Curse.” Listen and tell me this isn’t one of the best tracks of the past few years.
